A Taste for Treason

The Letter that Smashed a Nazi Spy Ring

Andrew Jeffrey
In 1937 a Dundee housewife informed MI5 about local hairdresser Jessie Jordan’s trips to Nazi Germany. The tip-off, and the interception of a letter from New York, unmasked a network of spies in Europe and the US, including a French naval officer, Marc Aubert, passing military secrets to German intelligence. Jordan was arrested and imprisoned; Aubert shot by firing squad.
