As duke, he was active over a vast region spanning present-day Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia and Bosnia, and renowned for leading military campaigns against the Bogomil heresy and against Mongol invaders in 1241. Drawing on sources throughout the region, this book traces the life of a key figure in 13th-century eastern Europe.
