The Monpas are a Tibetan Buddhist people who inhabit the region of Monyul in the northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. Vinay Sheel Oberoi, a retired civil servant and Ambassador to UNESCO, devoted much of his career to the area. His photographs, taken over decades, and his knowledgeable, empathetic text celebrate the people, religion, folklore, agriculture, crafts, and way of life rooted in the mountainous landscape.
