Never Alone

Prison, Politics, and My People

Gil Troy , Natan Sharansky
Born in Donetsk in 1948, Natan Sharansky spent nine years as a prisoner of conscience in the Soviet Union following his arrest in 1977. He recalls his ordeal, much of it in solitary confinement, before his release and emigration to Israel. The latter parts of his account describe the challenges he has faced as an Israeli politician and his work as chair of the Jewish Agency, building links between Israel and the global Jewish diaspora. Slightly off-mint.
